The Cine Infantil en Relieve was invented by Juan Nieto Gras, a magician who went by the stage name "Gargot." Juan and his brother Francisco Nieto "Zongo" were practicing magicians as teenagers who disappeared from Barcelona in 1939, only to reappear in South America working in a circus. When they returned to Barcelona, they were active as magicians, set designers and inventors. Gargot was also a painter, sculptor and toy designer. He invented a device that made it easier to illustrate comics. With a partner, Jordana, he formed the company Estereópicas JIN, which went on to manufacture toys, puppets and models of characters from comic strips (Marionetarium 2026).
He received a Spanish patent for the Cine Infantil en Relieve in 1954. Numerous scrolls were available in four categories: Famous Tales, Comic Strips, Oriental Legends and Famous Adventures.
